 Candidates my begin filing through 2/9/2024 @9pm by appointment only. Schedule an appointment by email (voting@cecilcountymd.gov) or phone (410-996-5310).

Qualifications for Candidacy
Interested candidates can find contest age and residency requirements by selecting Qualifications for Filing for Candidacy.

Petition Candidacy
Candidates that are registered as Unaffiliated must be nominated by petition as a general election candidate. Visit the Petition Candidacy page for more information.

Non Principal Political Party Candidates
Candidates that are registered as any recognized party other than the Democrat or Republican parties must be nominated by his or her party as a general election candidate. Visit the Non Principal Political Party Candidates page for more information.

Write-In Candidates
Persons filing as a write-in candidate may only do so for a general election. For more information visit the Write-in Candidate page for more information.

Withdrawal, Change of Contest, Change of Officer (Treasurer/Chairman)
Withdrawal – To withdraw you must file a completed Certificate of Withdrawal at the Cecil County Board of Elections. Please note: the initial filing fee is non-refundable.
Change of Contest – You must file a completed Certificate of Withdrawal and a new Candidate Information Sheet at the Cecil County Board of Elections. Please note: the initial filing fee in non-refundable and an additional filing fee is required for the new contest.
Change of Officer (Treasurer/Chairman) - In accordance with §13-207(d)(1) of the Election Law Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, a Chairman or Treasurer may resign by completing the Change of Officer Resignation/Appointment Form.
