Cecil Transit Application - Privacy Policy
Summary
Cecil Transit is committed to respecting your privacy. It is our policy to preserve the privacy of personal records and to protect confidential or privileged information. This Privacy Policy describes how Cecil Transit collects personal information on passengers when accessing and using the Cecil Transit application including practices for collecting, using, maintaining, and protecting personal information. Such information will be disclosed publicly only as required by the Public Information Act or as necessary or permissible to carry out official duties. Under State law, these policies do not apply to information gathered for certain specified purposes, such as the investigation of a possible violation of the law. - Information Collected and Stored
When utilizing Cecil Transit, certain information about your visit is automatically gathered and stored. This information includes the following:
- Personal information about you provided through voluntary registration including your name, email address, telephone number and credit card information;
- Personal information regarding your use of Cecil Transit’s Demand Response and COMPASS services including, but not limited to, times and locations of trips booked, taken, or cancelled and saved locations;
- Personal information provided to us by you through any other method, including but not limited to, correspondence and discussions; and
- Eligibility information for discounted fares and specialized transit services.
The personal information collected will be held by us or on our behalf by such other agent as we may appoint. Via Transportation, Inc., Cecil Transit’s third-party contractor, will have access to all personal information collected by Cecil Transit for purposes related to management and administration of Cecil Transit’s Demand Response and COMPASS services. Information will be stored on servers located in United States.
2. Location Information.
Cecil Transit will collect geo-location information, including your trips origin and destination. The Applications will also access and use the precise geo-location of your devices running the Application. This location information is used to facilitate trip planning and trip updates. The Application will only access and use your device’s location information if you give the application permission through your device settings or the Application itself.
3. Payment Information.
When you book a trip, Cecil Transit will collect information about the method of payment you intend to use. Cecil Transit does not collect or store debit or credit card details. A third-party vendor is used to collect payments. The use and storage of payment information through third party vendors are governed by the applicable terms of service and privacy policies and procedures of those vendors independent of Cecil County, Maryland and Cecil Transit. They may impose additional transaction fees based on your transaction associated with Cecil Transit.
4. Purposes.
The personal information you provide will be used for the following purposes:
- to allow you to use Cecil Transit’s Demand Response and COMPASS services;
- to all you to book your trip through the Cecil Transit application;
- to all you to pay your transit fare through the Cecil Transit application;
- to provide you with additional information about Cecil Transit’s services and offer you rewards and/or promotions offered by Cecil Transitthat may be of interest to you;
- to verify your identity and assist in technical, administrative and/or service inquiries (e.g., password reset, pre-paid payments, etc.);
- to investigate any complaints relating to misuse of Cecil Transit’s services or misconduct in relation to Cecil Transit services and to take any action deemed necessary to protect the safety of you or others in relations to those complaints;
- to assist in making accommodations for specialized transit services;
- to analyze in aggregate form (identifiable characteristics removed to protect your anonymity) for the purposes of continuous service improvement; and
- to disclose as may be required under applicable law, including but not limited to the Maryland Public Information Act, as amended or replaced from time to time.
5. Disclosure.
You agree that we may disclose the following:
- your personal information to the police or other government authorities where we believe it is reasonably necessary to protect your safety or the safety of others with whom you have been travelling while use Cecil Transit’s Demand Response or COMPASS services;
- your personal information to third parties when we believe, in good faith, that we are required to do so by law; and
- aggregate information and other information that does not personally identify you to such third parties as we see fit.
6. Protection of Privacy Statement.
With the exception of disclosures listed in Section 5 above, we will not sell, lease, share or disclose personal information to private business, organizations or individuals unless required or permitted to do so by Applicable Law.
7. Consequences of Non-Provision of Information.
Failure to provide necessary personal information requested at the time of registration for use of Cecil Transit services may result in certain services not being available to you.
- Security.
We are committed to your privacy and strive to protect the personal and confidential information of those who use Cecil Transit. However, as no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit or receive through Cecil Transit. These activities are conducted at your own risk. It is your responsibility to safeguard your devices appropriately and do not share your login or password.
9. Retention of Your Information.
As long as your account remains active, your personal information will be preserved in the Cecil Transit application. If you wish to have your information permanently deleted, you must delete your account. Your information will be retained under any applicable laws for the full duration of time required under those laws. Cecil Transit may also retain anonymized and deidentified information and continue to use this information in accordance with this policy statement. Cecil County, Maryland is not responsible for any information backed-up or stored on your devices following the deactivation of your account.
- Changes to this Privacy Statement.
From time to time, revisions to this policy statement may be necessary. If material changes are made, Cecil Transit will post a notice on their website (www.ceciltransit.com). You should periodically check Cecil Transit’s website for updates. By using Cecil Transit after we have posted notice of modifications or alterations to the Privacy Policy, you agree to be bound by such revised terms.
- Changing your Information.
You will be responsible for changing, updating, and maintaining the accuracy and completion of your information in Cecil Transit to ensure the best experience possible while utilizing the application.
- Third Parties.
Third party vendors with whom Cecil Transit shares user data will provide the same or equal protection of user data as stated in this Privacy Policy.
- Indemnification.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, users of the Cecil Transit app agree to indemnify and hold Cecil County, Maryland, its elected and appointed officials, employees, and volunteers, and others working on behalf of Cecil County, Maryland, harmless from and against all loss, cost, expense, damage, liability or claims arising out of, connection with, or incident to this Policy or Agreement.
