On Tuesday October 18, 2016 Legislative Session Day 2016-20, the County Council of Cecil County Enacted: Bill No. 2016-20 As Amended-Amendment – Zoning Ordinance – Initiation of Amendments- An Act to amend the Cecil County Zoning Ordinance, Article XVII, Part IV, Section 323.3. Initiation of Amendments, to allow the County Council to initiate amendments to the Zoning Ordinance. Effective Date 12/19/16

Notice of Enactment On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 Legislative Session Day 2016-19, the County Council of Cecil County Enacted: Bill No. 2016-19 Budget Transfer- Capital Budget- Historical Society and Arts Council. A Bill to amend the Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance for Cecil County, Maryland for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017, to transfer the bond expenditure authority in the amount of $61,011 within the Facilities Maintenance General Capital Projects Fund from three completed projects (Courthouse Roof Replacement(58023), Construct Courthouse Sally Port(58024) & Courthouse Phase II Renovation Projects(58022); and utilize the unspent bond funds to further the project to renovate the Historical Society and Arts Council(58040). Effective Date 12-12-2016

Press Release - County extends application deadline for the third Watershed Stewards Academy through October 3rd!
Elkton, MD – Cecil County Government, along with University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension, are proud to announce that the third Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) class will be held this fall based on the impressive results of the first two classes. The WSA is a program that trains adult community leaders in ways to reduce polluted stormwater runoff, improve local water quality, and help Maryland to meet its requirements for reductions in nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment under the Chesapeake Bay TMDL. The program is based on a successful model that has been implemented in Anne Arundel and Howard counties and the National Capitol region.

Press Release: Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy Celebrates Class Project
Members of the Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) along with staff from Maryland Department of Natural Resources Park Service gathered at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area (NRMA) on Friday, July 29th to celebrate the completion of the class project that was installed at the Ed Walls Activity Center. The project was constructed in early June and includes the installation of a rain garden and permeable pavers that capture and treat stormwater runoff from approximately 5,000 square feet of the Ed Walls Activity Center rooftop. The class project is the practical application of what the WSA class participants have learned as part of their year-long training on how to identify and treat stormwater runoff in and around their communities.

News Release # 17-02 Implementation of Right-Turn Lane on Route 40 at Red Toad Road
Elkton, MD – The newly-constructed right-turn lane on westbound Pulaski Highway (US Route 40) at the intersection with Red Toad Road is expected to be opened to traffic beginning on or about Thursday, July 28, 2016. The turn lane was constructed and an underlying sanitary sewer line was installed by Reybold Construction Group, LLC of Bear, Delaware under a $1.1M County-funded contract.

OPENING: Cecil County Animal Services
Elkton, MD - Cecil County Animal Services will begin operations Friday, July 1, 2016 at 3280 Augustine Herman Highway in Chesapeake City. A grand opening will be scheduled in August, and community members will be invited to tour the updated facility and meet the staff. Adoption hours for the Independence Day holiday weekend are 12 pm - 3 pm on Friday, 7/1/16, and 10 am - 3 pm on Saturday, 7/2/16. In the near future the shelter will have adoption hours on Sundays, but there will be no adoption hours this Sunday, 7/3/16 or Monday, 7/4/16, due to the holiday.
