PARKS AND REC FUN RUN b 051119

ELKTON, MD. – Cecil County Parks and Recreation will hold an official ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of Brantwood Park on Williams Road in Elkton on Saturday, May 4th.

Friends of Cecil County Parks and Recreation will also host a Family Fun Run & Walk through the park that morning beginning at 9AM. Participants are invited to run or walk the two-mile mapped course which extends through both the north and south side of the park. The event will also include vendors, family friendly games, a dog parade and contests. The ribbon cutting will occur immediately following the run/walk between 10 - 11AM.

“The official opening of Brantwood Park is a monumental occasion for Cecil County and worthy of celebration,” said County Executive Alan McCarthy. “I can think of no better way to promote safe, active and healthy community engagement than to kick off the festivities with a Fun Run & Walk for the entire family to enjoy.”

Participants can register in advance for $10 and includes the cost of an event t-shirt. Same day registration will also be available for $15, however, shirts will only be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Proceeds from the Fun Run & Walk will benefit the Friends of Cecil County Parks and Recreation Scholarship Program which assists in funding for those individuals interested in the County’s Parks and Recreation programs and services who are in need of financial assistance.

“I am very excited about bringing a continuity of park services to county residents. Brantwood Park, when completed, will afford a healthier, happier and more active place to live, learn and play for all populations,” added Clyde Van Dyke, Parks and Recreation Director.

Area businesses who would like to sponsor the event, should call 443-350-5781. Deadline to be included as a sponsor is April 19th.

Online registration for the Fun Run & Walk will begin March 1st, by visiting: https://cecilrec.recdesk.com/Community/Home. For information, call 410-996-8101.

Brantwood Park was acquired March 2018 through Program Open Space funding and opened for passive-use last August. Since then, the County’s Parks & Recreation Department has continued to develop the area with parking, a multi-use playground, walking trails, fishing ponds and more.
