PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
REPLACEMENT OF BELVIDERE ROAD BRIDGE
NO. CE0055 OVER CSX RAILROAD
The Cecil County Department of Public Works Engineering and Construction Division (DPW) is currently in concept design for the replacement of Belvidere Road Bridge No. CE0055 over CSX Railroad. A public informational meeting will be as follows:
Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
North East Branch Library
485 Mauldin Ave
North East, Maryland 21901
This informational meeting will acquaint the public with the project and provide citizens an opportunity to discuss with DPW staff any special concerns they may have. A meeting hall will be set up to accommodate the public and show alignments for the project work. DPW representatives will be available to discuss the engineering plans and other questions concerning the project.
Why is this work necessary?
While the existing bridge remains safe to use, it has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. Construction of a new bridge will provide a new wider and modern bridge with two lanes in both directions and improved roadway to accommodate the substantial growth in traffic volumes on Belvidere Road which will occur once the Maryland Transportation Authority constructs a new interchange on I95 at Belvidere Road.
How will traffic be impacted by construction activities?
The new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing bridge in order to maintain traffic during construction. It is anticipated the construction duration will be between 15 and 18 months.
When will work be completed?
The project is currently being designed. Assuming the project is funded for construction, utility work could begin as early as spring 2024 with actual bridge construction beginning in Summer 2024. The goal is to have the project complete by the time the new I95 interchange project is complete and placed into service in the summer of 2025.
