PRESS RELEASE

Theodore Road Bridges to Open over Stony Run and Principio Creek

Friday, February 9 after 9:00 a.m.

On Friday,  February 9, 2007 the Theodore Road Bridges over Stony Run and Principio Creek will reopen to traffic after 9:00 a.m.  The bridges are substantially complete, however due to the cold weather the final paving cannot be completed this winter.  The bridges meet all requirements for safe operation by motorists, therefore for the convenience of the traveling public the County elected to reopen the bridges for the remainder of the winter and through the spring until the final paving can be completed.  In addition to the final paving, the sand bag stream diversion in Principio Creek cannot be removed until after April 30 due to environmental regulations.  It is anticipated that the remaining work for the bridges will be completed in May 2007.  The bridges will remain open to traffic with a single lane closure and flagging operations during the final paving, removal of the stream diversion, and the completion of other ancillary work.

Construction of the bridges was started in August 2006 by Eastern Highway Specialists of Wilmington, Delaware.  The new bridges are 30 feet wide pre-cast concrete arches with two 12 foot lanes and two 3 foot shoulders.  For more information or questions, contact Stephen Udzinski, P.E.,  Chief, Engineering & Construction Division, Cecil County Department of Public Works at 410-996-5268.
