For Immediate Release
October 5, 2009

Elk River Park Boat Ramp

On Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., the Board of County Commissioners, members of the Parks and Recreation Board, and distinguished guests will launch the first boat from the new boat ramp at Elk River Park boat ramp located at 32 River Bend Parkway in Elkton.

The total cost of the boat ramp project was approximately $1.7 million with grant funds from the US Fish and Wildlife Sport Fish Restoration ($1,068,000), State Waterway Improvement ($477,166), Program Open Space ($86,067) and the County ($88,716).  Improvements include a 67.80' double boat ramp, floating boarding dock, 270' bulkhead, timber courtesy pier, 45 parking spaces with 41 of the spaces for a vehicle with a trailer, and mitigation planting.   The county has secured additional funding from State Waterway Improvement ($342,466) for dredging.  Future plans include a restroom building and recreational facilities in the field to the right of the entrance to the park.

The design engineer for the project was Andrews, Miller, & Associates, contract management engineer was Century Engineer, Inc.; general contractor was Baltimore Pile Driving and Marine Construction, Inc., and the paving was done by American Infrastructure.  In addition to this park improvement, members of Scout Troop 131 designed and installed the pavilion, picnic tables, barbeque pits, commercial grade swing set, and park clean up removing old appliances and debris from the site.  A scout from the troop will install a new bat box in November 2009.
