Press ReleaseDate: October 2, 2009 Contact: Cecil County Tourism / 410-996-6299 / cecil.tourism@ccgov.org Topic: "Celebrate Cecil!" – Restaurant & Tourism Month
From October 15th – November 15th, visitors and locals can save money while making memories in beautiful Cecil County Maryland. Tourism's Celebrate Cecil - Restaurant & Tourism Month offers coupons from tourism industry businesses, including restaurants, shops, attractions, and accommodations. Taking advantage of the offers is as easy as visiting the tourism web site at www.SeeCecil.org and printing out the coupons. Everyone needs a bargain these days and Celebrate Cecil provides it.
Thirty one business partners are participating in the promotion organized by the local tourism office. Every time someone uses one of the 31 coupons during the month, they can enter for a chance to win a Cecil County Prize Package. Packages include items donated by the partners, such as overnight stays, gift certificates, golf, jewelry, kayak rentals and tickets to events.
The fall promotion is designed to bring visitors to the county to spend money, just as the primary tourist season is drawing to a close. "In tough economic times, it's more important than ever to market the county to tourists who enjoy our destinations", says Sandy Maruchi-Turner, tourism coordinator. "They support our local businesses and that translates into tax dollars being generated for Cecil County as a result of travelers spending money. When visitors go home, we don't have to educate their children or provide them expensive county services, but we benefit from the dollars they leave behind".
Celebrate Cecil coupons include offerings from 13 local restaurants from the shores of the Susquehanna, to below the Canal. They offer 20% off, Sundays through Thursdays if you bring the coupon with you. Other tourist businesses have a variety of coupons offering percentages off, as well as buy-one-get-one-half-off, or buy-one-get-one-free. Any exclusions are listed on the coupon.
Local tourism industry partners pulled together with Cecil County Tourism to plan the promotion. After having a restaurant meeting where the idea met with enthusiasm, tourism sent letters to businesses on the Cecil County Visitor Guide. "We were very pleased with the results. Having thirty one participants offering coupons for visitors and local citizens is wonderful!", Maruchi-Turner said. A key partner in developing the promotion with Cecil County Tourism is Larry Metz, owner of The Wellwood Club, in Charlestown. "Celebrate Cecil is fantastic, highlighting the county's unique family places to visit. We're thrilled to be part of the promotion with tourism and all our business partners, featuring the best of what Cecil County has to offer." Metz said. That sentiment was echoed by another member of the partnership, Deborah Pro-Marshall, General Manager of North East Racing & Sports Club. "Celebrate Cecil is a great opportunity for our tourism office and area businesses to join together to showcase wonderful attractions available here in Cecil County".
The promotion will be advertised in email blasts from each partnering organization, as well as through ads in regional newspapers and radio stations. All emails and ads will direct people to the Cecil County Tourism web site.
