Welcome to the Cecil County Solid Waste Management Division's Recycling Programs page. Our recycling program was instituted in 1990 after the Maryland Recycling Act was passed. The Maryland Recycling Act requires counties with a population under 150,000 to recycle 15% of their waste stream. Cecil County falls into this category and has met or exceeded this requirement every year since the law was enacted.
Cecil County currently recycles over 50% of it's waste. In 2007 we recycled over 95,000 tons which is 52% of our waste stream. This includes cardboard, white goods, electronics, fluorescent lamps, yard waste, batteries, and single stream recyclables.
To view a video of how single stream recyclables are processed visit: Thinkgreen.com, go to the recycling section, and click on view video. Or you can visit http://www.recyclebank.com/recycling# to see an animated detailed version of how single stream recycling works.
